Networking Cables

Networking hardware that connect one device to another networking device or connects computers to share devices like scanner, printer etc. are called networking cables. Depending on the network’s size, protocol and topology; twisted pair cables, Coaxial cable or Optical fibre cables are used. The networking devices can be connected at a few meters via an Ethernet or nearly unconfined space via internet connections. When total throughput is not a problem, wireless networks are used but most large computer networks use networking cables from one point to another in order to transfer signals. Vacker Nigeria is a supplier of such networking cables in Nigerian cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Aba, Ibadan, Kano, etc.

Types of Networking cables

Twisted pair:

Sometimes disturbances in the networking is caused due to Radio frequency interference from external sources or from the wire pairs which needs to be eliminated. This cancelling out is achieved by twisted pairing the wires. The twisting of forward and the return conductors of a single circuit is carried out to create a twisted pair cabling. This type is commonly found in local area network called Ethernet. Ethernet is widely used in home as well as official networks.

Depending on the use of protective covering over either the individual pairs or the collection of pairs of wires, the twisted pair cables can be divided into two main types, namely shielded and unshielded.

Ethernet crossover cable:

When two computers or any other same devices need to be connected directly without using connecting devices like hub, router etc. Ethernet crossover cables are used. It is also a kind of a twisted pair cable. Ethernet crossover cables being manufactured recently are built to support Auto MDI-X, so it doesn’t necessarily be crossover or straight cables as they are made to configure automatically. However the Ethernet cables are used only for the purpose of connecting same kind of devices either it be two computers or two switches.

Fiber optic cable:

Cables that carry light are called optical fibers and a group of few fiber cables or a single cable is known as fiber optic cable. The optical fibers are confined inside a protective tube so as to match the surrounding, where the cable will be placed. Each of the fiber optic cable is previously coated with plastic layers which protects the cables from wear and tear and the insulating jacket outside consist of either Teflon or PVC which prevents interference. The use of glass or plastic for the fiber optic depend on the purpose of the fiber as they offer vastly different features. For example, glass fiber is used for medium to long range telecommunications generally known as single-mode fiber; whereas plastic fiber is capable of performing only at very short range know as multi-mode fiber. Therefore the fiber optical cables could be used for long distance telecommunication and also for a high-speed data connections in short range like various area in the same province.

Coaxial cable:

The electromagnetic wave which are confined in the coaxial lines inside the cable in between the shield and the center conductor is called coaxial cables. In these types of cables, the dielectric inside the cable in between the conductors are solely responsible for the transmission of energy. These coaxial cables were used in the 20th century, as telephone connections for long distance.

One of the main advantages of this type of cable is that they can be twisted and bent to some limit as per requirements. The twisting and bending does not create negative effects neither does it induce unwanted currents as it in need of conductive supports.

Generally these coaxial cables are mostly used in signals like televisions which work with high bandwidth of hundreds of megahertz to gigahertz. Coaxial cables are still being used in homes for transmitting TV signals, however, in recent days, new techniques like ITU-T G hn make use of coaxial cable for fast home networking.

Vacker Nigeria supplies coaxial and other networking cables in regions of Nigeria such as Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Aba, Ibadan and Kano.

Patch cable:

An optical cable or electric cable that connects one electronic or optical unit to another for signal routing is known as a patch cable. A patch cable connects various types of devices like a switch with a computer or a switch connected with a router. Patch cables are made in many various colors so that they can be identified easily and are two meters or shorter. Patch cables are more flexible but can be less durable than the on premises wiring.

Power lines:

Power lines are the combination of one or more conductors which are distributed over long distances connected over large poles or towers. These are generally used for transmitting high electric powers. These are normally not produced for networking applications, however power lines communication and other newer technologies allow these power wires to connect home computers, peripherals and other devices. This is a simple technology which uses home electrical wiring as a wired data network, making the wiring process very easy, which is why it is preferred over phone lines and coaxial. The ITU-T adopted the recommendation on December 2008 for high speed power line communications as the as the first worldwide standard.
